Seven English Room Design Ideas!

Here are Design Ideas for your English Room to make sure students are active, having fun and engaged! Even if you do not have an English room, you can still implement many of these ideas in different classrooms!

1: Use Interactive Boards!

Interactive boards are great to have because you can always tell students who finish their work early to go to the interactive board and create different sentences!

2: Design with Flags!

Use Flags from around the world to keep students in the zone of English and global learning!  Use the flags to spark a discussion about English as a global language, the language of communication, the internet, politics and business around the world!

3: A Tabletop Puppet theater!

Create a corner with a small table top puppet theater, a place to use those paper finger puppets we create in our lessons or a place to practice speaking and communication skills using hand puppets!

Click here to read about how I use puppets to encourage students to use different learn dialogues in English, be creative and express themselves!

4: Use PVC Tablecloths!

Divide your classroom into groups and place a different tablecloth on each one, each with a different color.

Those PVC tablecloths make it smooth and easy to write on.  Each group will be given a name according to their color.

The orange group... the red group... the blue group and so on.

Make sure you have magnets or anything else that shows those group names on the board as well so you can allocate good points to the groups! and here you have a wonderful and fun classroom management strategy for your English classroom. For more classroom management tricks click here.

5: Create a Cozy Alone Space for Students

Having different seating options makes it easier for you to offer different ways to work and by that you can elevate engagement rates in your lessons.

Many times students need some alone time and prefer to work without distractions, this could be a great solutions for them. So you will find that having different learning spaces makes it easier for you to encourage all students to work.

6: Arrange your Classroom Cabinet

The easiest way I found, since I teach different classes, is to allocate each grade level, a shelf.  Then, one binder with dividers for each topic.

A divider for food, a divider for animals etc...
(remember that each grade level has a different shelf with a different binder).

Another folder is allocated to different levels: a folder for my partani lessons, a folder for native speakers, and one for easier materials. So I always know where I can find materials for different students.

7: Showcase Display Corner

Book cover activity
It is always good to have a corner with some small easels to display student work! make sure you put a nice tablecloth on it.

This nurtures a strong sense of community, makes students feel more meaningful in class, and proud of their work.

Having a table aside for this, makes thing easier for you, the teacher, to quickly display students work at the end of class.
