Have you ever taken a Playbuzz personality quiz like this?
I have found myself taking multiple personality quizzes or general
knowledge quizzes when surfing online, I have discovered my "real
age", my "spirit animal" and my "real phobia".
Since these are always fun and engaging, here are five ways to use them
in the classroom:
1. Use this as a pre reading activity, for example:
before we read a text about sleep deprivation, we can let students complete the
quiz: "Test yourself, are you sleep deprived"? this activates prior
knowledge and makes reading easier.
2. Quiz- a test yourself quiz: are you ready for the exam next
week? Teacher can create a quiz that is personal. This elevates students
autonomy and accountability. It can be sent directly to their phones.
3. Students can open an account and create their own quiz. This can
be done as an exam preparation, students can write quizzes and share them with
each other. Writing their own quizzes activates critical thinking and deeper
learning.
4. Practice asking questions in the Present Simple- When students
write questions for their own quiz, they practice asking questions in the
proper grammatical form.
5.
As a research assignment: Students can
research a topic. They can start by taking a quiz related to their topic and
learn from it, eventually researching more about it and writing a new quiz
based on their research. For example: A quiz about Jerusalem, a quiz about the
II world war. If they decide to create a quiz about their city or country, they
can send the quiz to another class in the world to complete.
6. Use this as an exit ticket: Ask students to complete how they feel about the lesson today: Was the lesson easy? Hard? What are they feeling right now, at the end of the lesson? What would they like to review again next week? This encourages reflection and the teacher can see the distribution of answers and plan his/her next lesson accordingly.
