Goosechase EDU is a digital game that is played outdoors, meaning, outside of the classroom and perhaps even outside of school. In addition to language skills such as speaking, writing and listening, It encourages 21st century skills such as collaboration, cooperation, communication and social skills.

We combine pens, papers and colors with technology

From the site: GooseChaseEDU is a web-based platform that creates scavenger hunts for an app of the same name on mobile (iOS and Android) devices. First, teachers go to the website to create a new game with a basic description. ... Each mission is a scavenger hunt clue, which comes in three types: photo/video, text, or location.

Social learning/ group work

The teacher has to set up a quiz or a game with many tasks. Each task is worth a certain amount of points.

The tasks are, preferably,  to be performed outside of the classroom in groups. With the educator account (GoosechaseEDU) teachers can have up to five groups but each student in the group, can complete the missions from their phone by themselves/in pairs and help their group win.

Students choose their next mission

In my English lessons, I write tasks for students using the new vocabulary I want them to practice.  I also have them interview people, take videos, record their voice and take pictures of things around the school. I have them communicate with other teachers other students and thus enhance speaking skills. I have them draw things, write up things on paper and take pictures. That is how I have them practice writing and spelling skills and also practice grammar concepts.

Students draw and label new words

Some of the missions I give are:

Record a video of a short dialogue with a friend. (I provide the template). (Here students get really creative, they act out the dialogue!)

Take a photo of a teacher that has recently been to a concert (vocabulary word: concert).

Draw a map of your city and label the fire station, the police station and the hospital ("our town" vocabulary).

Take a picture of something around the school that is round and expensive. (vocabulary: round, expensive).

Listen to the following song and sing it with a partner. (Here I add a link to a youtube video) record yourself singing this song. (Practice vocabulary, collaboration, pronunciation and speaking).

Finally….
I always leave 10 minutes to show all the submissions on the board and give bonus points to those who were exceptionally creative (Like those really creative videos!).

I also make sure that everyone has the task according to the instructions and I deduct points for those who did not follow the instructions properly.

Finally we show the leaderboard on the board and we declare the winning group!
